My interest in jewelry stems from a great love of color and working with materials derived from the earth: semi-precious gemstones, silver, glass, and shell. I find inspiration in many places: the geometric patterning of Navajo weavings, the stillness of a Mark Rothko painting, the sky and ocean. Also, the stones themselves and the healing properties they are said to embody.
My jewelry designs evolve intuitively, in a process closely linked to the development of a painting or print. There is a gestation period where the beads' shapes, the patterns of the silver, and the colors exist not together, but side by side, as pure potential. A connection begins to develop and this is where the surprise and excitement lie for me, in never knowing what the end result will be.
